For this Christmas song, I had planned to write something cheerful about how wonderful it is to be together. But a good friend passed away recently (actually, the fourth in the space of two years...) and all I could think about was all the people we've lost, who won't be there at the Christmas table this year. It can be so painful to have to put on a brave face and pretend to be cheerful. I really hope this year we can share the things that are painful as well as the happiness.

I recorded it in Studio Doornenburg with Janos Koolen. Early in the morning we recorded my vocals and my acoustic guitar with one microphone. Then we recorded my harmonies (twice) and in the afternoon Janos added slide guitar and piano.
